Vancouver On The Road - Hostel in Europe
Canada’s gateway to the Pacific Rim and third largest city, Vancouver stands within one of the most beautiful settings in the world. The city is often called ‘Lotusland’ by other Canadians, as much for its temperate climate as for its reputation for offering a laid-back and natural lifestyle. The city prides itself on its outdoor recreational activities, ranging from sea kayaking, in-line skating and mountain biking to snowboarding, skiing and winter camping.
Vancouver is recognized as an active metropolis as well. One of things so unique about it is how it's managed to maintain such vibrant ethnic and cultural tone while remaining so relaxed and unspoiled.
Vancouver has a vibrant downtown as well, with its historic Gastown and trendy Yaletown areas. The landmark Lions Gate Bridge links the city with North Vancouver and the North Shore Mountains across Burrard Inlet.
Vancouver’s many ethnic communities enliven the city, with everything from excellent restaurants to a diverse programme of cultural event. The city has a very large Chinatown and is known world-wide as one of the best places for sushi. Vancouver is still a city of new immigrants: wander the streets and you'll hear a dozen different languages.
Vancouver will be hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics, with many of the venues at nearby Whistler, just 130km away.
